Rae Bareli: Congress President Sonia Gandhi today (Dec 16, 2005) made light of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav announcing a development package for her constituency and said people in power are ruffled whenever the development of Amethi and Rae Bareli is mentioned.

"When we speak of development of entire Uttar Pradesh along with Rae Bareli and Amethi, it troubles those running the Government in the state," she said.

She said, "I have no need to speak about my contribution towards the development of Rae Bareli as I know the people of the constituency are wise enough to differentiate between those doing real work and those just blowing their trumpets."

Gandhi who took part in the district level monitoring committee meeting, the first attended by her since she won the seat, was addressing the concluding function of the 5-day Congress Sewa Dal workers camp here.

She admitted that her party organisation was weak in the state at present but "it will not remain so for ever." She ascribed the lack of dialogue between political workers and the people as the possible reason for the Congress losing ground in UP.
