Lok Sabha mourns loss of lives in Chennai stampede

New Delhi: Lok Sabha today (Dec 19,2005) condoled the death of 42 people in a stampede outside a school in Chennai yesterday (Dec 19,2005).

The tragedy took place in the early hours when over 4,000 people had gathered outside the school in MGR Nagar to collect coupons for flood relief, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said.

"They rushed to the school building following a sudden downpour leading to the stampede," he said.

"The stampede has added to grief of flood-ravaged victims. We deeply mourn the loss of lives and join bereaved families in their hour of sorrow," the Speaker said.
