Omar re-elected as National Conference President

Srinagar: Omar Abdullah was today (Dec 19, 2005) elected unopposed National Conference President for the second consecutive term.

"Omar was the only candidate for the post and 2747 delegates out of over 7000 proposed the name of Omar for the post and other delegates unanimously seconded the proposal," Leader of Opposition in the state assembly and returning officer for the elections Abdul Rahim Rather said here.

Among those who proposed the name of Omar for the post included all office bearers of the party, including district and block presidents of the party across the state, he said.

Omar was elected president of the party for the first time on the eve of 2002 assembly elections.
