Chennai:
A corporation councillor was arrested this morning in connection with the stampede on Sunday at a flood relief centre here, which claimed 42 lives, police said today (Dec 20, 2005).
Police said the councillor Dhanasekaran, belonged to opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and was arrested for allegedly 'spreading rumours', which caused the stampede.
Meanwhile, DMK president M Karunanidhi has convened a meeting of the office bearers of the party's city unit to discuss the matter which it described as an 'alleged attempt by ruling AIADMK Government to malign the party.'
