'CM encouraging irregularities in Panchayat polls' Tuesday, December 20 2005 18:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
Charging that Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh was encouraging electoral irregularities in Zilla and Taluk Panchayat polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Anantkumar today (Dec 20, 2005) demanded that the Governor T N Chaturvedi dismiss him from the post.
"Singh while addressing an election rally yesterday has called upon people to accept liquor and money from other parties and vote for Congress and this amounted to indulging and encouraging electoral irregularities," Kumar alleged at a press conference here.
His party would lead a delegation to the Governor demanding Singh's dismissal as he failed in ensuring free and fair polls not only as chief minister but also as Home Minister, he said.
The BJP, Kumar said, would petition the Election Commission of India and the Karnataka State Election Commission demanding action against the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister's remarks had proved that the coalition Government partner Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) distributed liquor and money, he charged.
Reacting to the recent gruesome rape and murder of a call centre woman employee, Kumar demanded the BPO firms to ensure safety of its employees.
Women have been working on night shifts in Telecom Department since over four decades, but no such incidents have been reported so far, he pointed out.
