Agencies connected with the rehabilitation of earthquake-hit people in Jammu and Kashmir particularly in Uri and Tangdhar districts have to re-double their efforts for providing permanent dwellings to the victims, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Basharat Ahmad Dhar has said.
Lauding the role of various non-governmental organizations, he said the state government soon after the quake activated and consolidated its agencies to provide immediate succor to the affected people by constructing temporary sheds to protect these people from the chill and snow in view of winters.
The Central Government has provided all possible financial aid to the quake victims besides imparting training to the engineers through their experts, Dhar said presiding over a joint meeting of officers of Kashmir division and representatives of World Bank, UNICEF, World Health Organization and United Nations Development Project here yesterday (Dec 20,2005).
The 13-member team visited Uri and Tangdhar to take stock of the relief and rehabilitation measures undertaken by the State Government. The team expressed satisfaction over these measures.
The Divisional Commissioner asked these representatives to coordinate with roads and buildings and Public Health Engineering departments while providing designs of houses which could resist earthquake in future and share their expertise with engineers of the state.
