House of Commons team to probe into India-UK trade Wednesday, December 21 2005 09:21 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
London:
A Committee of Britain's House of Commons would explore the Trade and Investment Opportunities with India in an effort to give further boost to the bilateral trade between the two countries.
Some analysts here have expressed fears that UK businesses have been too slow to see the potential offered by India, one of the most rapidly growing economies in the world
with strong links with Britain.
The Trade and Industry Committee of the Commons will work to give fillip to the
bilateral economic ties.
The Committee will focus on the difficulties and opportunities faced by UK businesses wishing to trade, or forge investment links, with India, with particular reference
to opportunities in the IT, life-sciences, aerospace and financial services sectors.
It will also examine difficulties faced by Indian businesses in the UK.
In addition, the Committee will focus on the role of British institutions of higher and further education in developing such links and the role of the UK Government in
assisting businesses, including the relative responsibilities of UK Trade and Investment and the Regional Development Agencies.
According to Sanmit Ahuja, Head of India Affairs, Commonwealth Business Council, the Council will make a submission to the Committee on the issue.
