Powerful quake rocks Indonesia's Sulawesi island

Jakarta (Indonesia): A powerful earthquake rocked Indonesia's Sulawesi island today (Dec 21, 2005), triggering panic among some residents, meteorological officials said. There were no immediate reports of damage.

The 6.3-magnitude quake was centered south of the city of Manado in northern Sulawesi, the meteorological agency in Jakarta said, adding it was too early to give an exact location.

A meteorological official in Manado said some people fled their homes when the quake struck.
