DPA 'politicizing' flood relief work, says BJP Thursday, December 22 2005 14:48 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
Charging the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu with 'politicizing' the flood relief work, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said the Center was adopting a 'step motherly' attitude in the allocation of funds to the state for relief work.
Talking to reporters here, party state President C P Radhakrishnan, also came down heavily on the DMK for announcing a state-wide fast on December 27 for proper
distribution of flood relief materials.
It would be better if the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) constituents, instead of
picking holes in the flood relief work done by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Government, try to get more funds from the Centre for the
state for the relief work.
The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was yet to visit the state to see for himself the extent of damage due to floods, he said.
He demanded the Center to allocate Rs 500 crore more to the state as 'interim relief' for flood relief work.
He said the AIADMK Government should take stern action against those who caused breaches in the lakes and water sources in the state.
