Chouhan wants to give up post of state BJP president Sunday, December 25 2005 13:50 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bhopal:
In keeping with the policy of one man holding one post, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wants to be relieved of the post of state party President at the earliest.
"Since I have become the chief minister, I want to relinquish the post of state BJP president at the earliest. I have conveyed my desire to the party high-command," he told
sources here.
Chouhan, who took over as chief minister on November 29, said selection of the new state BJP chief was being delayed as senior party leaders were busy in view of the forthcoming national executive meeting and the national convention, starting in Mumbai on December 26.
The Chief Minister expressed the hope that his successor for the party job would be named after the 5-day national convention and he would be able to concentrate more on
developmental works undertaken by the Government.
On the likelihood of loyalists of expelled party leader Uma Bharti creating trouble for his Government, Chouhan said he was not bothered about anything other than the task
assigned to him by the party for taking the state towards prosperity and progress and providing good governance to the people.
"My only aim is to ensure the state's development in the same way as Arjun in 'Mahabharata', who was hitting his target with precision, accuracy and speed," he said.
Chouhan, a member of Lok Sabha from Vidisha constituency, who needs to be elected to the state assembly within six months, said the constituency from where he should seek
election would soon be decided in consultation with senior BJP leaders.
