Painting competition for Tsunami-hit children
Sunday, December 25 2005 10:28 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Nagapattinam: An Unicef-sponsored painting competition involving students affected by tsunami was held here yesterday (Dec 24, 2005).

The students had been given training by the UNICEF and the competition was arranged to bring out their talents.

The competition was inaugurated by District Collector J Radhakrishnan.

In another function, thirty six school children, who undertook a survey to elicit the views of tsunami affected people of the district on the tsunami relief and rehabilitation activities taken up by both NGOs and the Government, were honoured with the titles of 'Child social auditors/photographers.'

The students, in the age group of 10-12, had been selected by the NGOs, Plan India and Real India and given a 10-day training for undertaking the survey.

Meanwhile, the Collector in a release appealed to all people in the district to observe a one-minute silence at 9.17 a.m. on Monday to pay homage to thousands of people who lost their lives to the killer waves last year.
