Four militants, including two top Pakistani commanders of Al-Badr and Lashker-e-Toiba militant outfits, were killed and four policemen injured in gun battles in Jammu and Kashmir where an ultra was also arrested today (Dec 25, 2005).
Wasim, a Pakistani national and self-styled district commander of Al-Badr outfit, was killed and four security personnel injured in a gun battle at Bemina locality, Senior
Superintendent of Police Muneer Khan told sources.
"Acting on specific information about presence of the top militant in a house at Boatmen's colony at Bemina, police, assisted by Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), cordoned off the area this morning," he said.
The militant was asked to surrender but he opened fire on the security forces, Khan said adding he was killed in retaliatory action.
One AK rifle, four magazines, a grenade thrower and some rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession.
"Four police personnel were injured in the exchange of fire in which some houses were also damaged," Khan said.
An LeT militant, identified as Abu Umer of Pakistan, was killed in a gunbattle with security forces at Sollian near Hari Marhote in Surankote sector of Poonch this morning, a police spokesman said.
He said two more militants, yet to be identified, were killed in another encounter with security forces at Salwah in Mendhar sector of Poonch district today.
Police arrested a militant at Drubgam in Pulwama district of South Kashmir and recovered two AK rifles, the spokesman said.
