The DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance today (Dec 26, 2005) decided to hold demonstrations on December 30 demanding adequate compensation to the victims of the recent floods in Tamil Nadu.
The demonstrations would be held in all district headquarters in the state, a resolution passed at the meeting of the leaders of the DPA constituents said today.
Following this, the fast, announced for tomorrow by the DMK and the picketing programme announced by the left parties, scheduled for December 31,had been postponed, the resolution said.
The meeting condemned the arrest of Chennai Corporation councilor Dhanasekaran on charges of spreading rumours that the flood relief materials would not be distributed after December 18, which, the police claimed, led to the stampede in which 42 persons were killed here.
DMK President M Karunanidhi presided over the meeting.
TNCC President G K Vasan, PMK president G K Mani and MDMK chief Vaiko were among those who attended the meeting.
