Tada court allows subjecting Abu to scientific tests Tuesday, December 27 2005 10:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
A Tada court hearing the 1993 bomb blast case yesterday (Dec 26, 2005) allowed the Anti-terrorist Squad of Mumbai police to take extradited gangster Abu Salem to Bangalore and Pune to undergo scientific tests in connection with the Pradeep Jain murder probe.
Last week another Tada court hearing Pradeep Jain murder case had allowed ATS to subject Salem to brain mapping, polygraph test and narco-analysis tests.
However, ATS moved the Tada court hearing the 1993 bomb blast case because this court had passed an order earlier saying its permission should be taken if Salem was taken outside the city limits.
The designated Judge P D Kode, allowing ATS to take Salem to Bangalore and Pune for scientific tests, directed that top priority be given to Salem's security and his health condition while undertaking journey to these places.
Salem had also given his consent to undergo the scientific tests and his letter was placed before the Tada court.
ATS intends to make Salem undergo the lie detection (polygraph), brain mapping tests and narco-analysis tests to get more clues out of him about the involvement of other accused in the Jain murder case, according to special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.
The prosecutor told the court that Salem had disclosed names of certain persons who were part of his financial chain of collection and distribution of extortion money. ATS needed to subject Salem to scientific tests to find out whether Salem was telling the truth, he said.
