Short range ballistic missile 'Dhanush' testfired

Chandipur-on-Sea (Orissa) : 'Dhanush', India's indigenously developed short range ballistic missile, was test fired from a naval ship stationed in the Bay of Bengal off the Orissa coast today (Dec 28, 2005), defence sources said.

Mounted on a stabilised launcher, the missile was test fired at 1.58 pm, the sources said.

'Dhanush' is the naval version of the surface to surface missile system Prithvi.

With the capacity to carry a payload of 500 kg, the sleek missile has a striking range of 250 km, the sources said.
