Nominations filed for Rajya Sabha seats from Delhi
Wednesday, December 28 2005 15:05 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Sitting Congress MPs Karan Singh and Janardhan Dwivedi and senior party leader J P Aggarwal today (Dec 28, 2005) filed their nominations for elections to the three Rajya Sabha seats from Delhi.

They filed four sets of nomination papers each in the presence of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, her cabinet colleagues, DPCC Chief Ram Babu Sharma and several other party leaders.

A large number of MLAs were also present on the occasion.

Representing the Congress High Command on the occasion was AICC General Secretary in charge of Delhi Ashok Gehlot and Party Treasurer Motilal Vohra.

The nomination of Aggarwal, a three-time MP from Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency, yesterday came as a surprise while the names of former Union Minister Karan Singh and AICC General Secretary Dwivedi were doing the rounds.

Singh and Dwivedi have been renominated while Aggarwal comes in the place of Union Minister P M Sayeed who died last week.

Today is the last date for filing nominations while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 31.

The nominations for the biennial elections will be scrutinized on December 29, while the date of polling, if necessary, is January seven.
