No snap assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh: Mulayam
Wednesday, December 28 2005 09:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Etawah: Setting at rest all speculation about snap assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav yesterday (Dec 27, 2005) said there was no threat to his Government and it would complete its full term.

"Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh will not be proponed and my Government will complete its full term. There is no threat to it from any quarter," Yadav told sources here.

He slammed political parties for what he said creating confusion among people about an early assembly election.

They were seeking support of the electorate as if polls were near, Yadav said adding even Congress chief Sonia Gandhi sought support of the people in her Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were also speaking in similar tone, the Chief Minister said.

Yadav said his party would secure an absolute majority in the next assembly elections and would form a Government in the state on its own.

Listing his Government's achievements, he said the state would attain seven per cent economic growth this fiscal.

On power shortage, the Chief Minister said at least 16-hour power supply would be ensured in urban and rural areas by April next year.

On checking corruption in the state, he said his Government had initiated several steps in this direction, adding directives had been issued to district administrations to check the menace at their level.

Citing the killing of a number of hardened criminals, Yadav said the law and order situation in the state had improved in the past two years.
