Attack on minorities in post-Godhra case; 8 held Thursday, December 29 2005 11:51 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Ahmedabad:
A local court here yesterday (Dec 28, 2005) sentenced eight post-Godhra riot accused to imprisonment for different periods, ranging from three months to three years, in a April 2002 case wherein Hindu community members had attacked people belonging to a minority community in Gomtipur locality of the city.
Additional Sessions Judge Sonia Gokani yesterday awarded the sentence to eight persons including Premji Punja Chamar who was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment.
The seven co-accused in this case, Kamlesh Kanji, Piyush Parmar, Ghanshyam Thaker, Brijesh Parikh, Jayanti Vankar, Jivan Chamar, Bhagwan Mana, got relatively smaller sentences.
The accused were found guilty of being part of a mob which had attacked members of the minority community near Mariam Bibini Chali on April 22, 2002 with stones and sharp weapons.
