BJP regrets MPs involvement in cash for query scam Thursday, December 29 2005 11:38 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (Dec 29, 2005) expressed regret over involvement of some of its MPs in the cash for questions scandal but said 'short-circuiting' of disciplinary proceedings in such cases could lead to political vendetta.
"Such people have no place in parliamentary democracy," a draft political resolution, being taken up for passing at the party's national convention here today, said.
At the same time, BJP is concerned that short-circuiting disciplinary procedures could open floodgates of political vendetta, the resolution said.
"The stonewalling of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) on the Volcker report and the Mitrokhin revelations can be contrasted with the alacrity of Congress to act in the cash for questions scandal," it said.
The party sounded optimistic over the prospects of a mid-term poll as it said, "The coming months pose challenges and opportunities for BJP. The ramshackle UPA is riddled with internal contradictions and lacks coherence. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) exists as the Government in waiting."
