New Delhi: Union Cabinet today (Dec 29, 2005) approved the grant of enhanced ex-gratia and relief to victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

It was decided that the Centre would give ex-gratia payment in case of death at the rate of Rs 3.5 lakh in each case in addition to what has been paid by different State Governments, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters.

Ex-gratia payments in case of injuries will be given at the rate of Rs 1.25 lakh minus the amount already paid as per the relevant court judgements.

The total financial implications in these cases will be Rs 714.16 crore, he said.
