Sonia Gandhi calls on Sri Lankan President Rajapakse

New Delhi: United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi today (Dec 29,2005) called on the visiting Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse who is understood to have briefed her on the ongoing efforts to restart the peace process with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

During his meetings with Indian leaders, the Sri Lankan President has sought greater involvement of India in its fragile peace process, besides exploring ways for further consolidating bilateral relations.

First lady of Sri Lanka Shirandthi Rajapakse was also present during over half-an-hour meeting between Sonia and Rajapakse.
