Throw 'corrupt' AIADMK Government from power: DPA
Friday, December 30 2005 14:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) today (Dec 30,2005) virtually kicked of its campaign for next year's poll to the Tamil Nadu assembly with alliance leaders urging the people to throw the 'corrupt' All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Government from power.

DPA leaders gave this call at demonstrations organised by the alliance at all district headquarters in the state today, to demand proper distribution of flood relief to the affected and to condemn the 'vengeful' attitude of the AIADMK Government by charging the opposition parties for creating confusion among the public on this issue.

At Chennai, DMK president M Karunanidhi himself led the demonstration in front of the district collectorate here.

He was joined by TNCC President G K Vasan, MDMK chief Vaiko, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) President G K Mani, CPI-M leader N Varadarajan and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader R Nallakannu.

Speaking on the occasion, Karunanidhi said the 'inefficient'AIADMK Government, which was unable to carry out relief work in an organised manner, was levelling false charges against volunteers of opposition parties, only to cover up its lapses.

If distribution had been organised in an efficient manner, the December 18 stampede in front of a distribution centre, in which 42 persons were killed, could have been averted, he said.

Karunanidhi said it was for the people to decide whetherthe AIADMK Government, which had indulged in 'corruption',should continue in power or not.

He also levelled a fresh corruption charge against the AIADMK Government, charging it with handing over a medical educational institution, taken over by the government during the DMK regime, to a private party which floated the institution, only after money changed hands.
