Foreign made grenades used for IISc attack: Police Friday, December 30 2005 14:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
The terrorists who attacked the country's prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc) here had brought grenades manufactured on a foreign soil for triggering off explosions, preliminary probe has revealed.
A thorough examination of grenades left behind by the culprits has indicated that 'HD 84 grenades' were manufactured in a foreign country, Karnataka DGP B S Siyal told sources here.
He said though the eye witness accounts at IISc maintain that there was a lone terrorist, police believe it could be at least two or three more and more than one weapon had been used for firing, that left professor of IIT, Delhi, M C Puri dead and wounded four others.
Siyal said the suspicion of the police that more than one weapon was used had been strengthened by the fact that the bullet pellets found in the eye of Sonia Gupta were different from those of the ones used in AK 47 rifle.
The police have been exchanging information with their counterparts in Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi, he said.
Recovery of dry fruits from the kit of terrorists suggests that they are not locals, Siyal said.
Confusion continued to confront police on the type of vehicle used by terrorists, as the IISc campus is located in a busy locality.
