Bangalore:
The police today (Dec 30, 2005) stepped up security to the Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh and his official residence 'Anugraha' in the wake of warnings of bomb explosions there, a top police official said.
State's DGP B S Siyal, who confirmed receipt of a letter warning of explosions, said besides increasing the security to the Chief Minister, his official residence has been brought under thick security cover.
"All those seeking visit to the Chief Minister's residence, including ministers, legislators and others would be subjected to strict security checks," he said.
The letter sent to media offices claimed that three explosions would take place at the chief minister's residence and a five-star hotel on the New Year eve and it would be one of the most systematic executions ever to take place in the country.
Sent by a man addressing himself as Moinuddin, the letter claimed that six "Al Jehadees" were in Bangalore and two human bombs would carry out the explosions at the Chief Minister's residence. It asked the Police Commissioner to stop it.
Siyal said the Grand Ashok hotel has been provided with tight security cover.
In the meanwhile, Singh, responding to a query by reporters, said he had not received any such letter, but has asked the City Police Commissioner Ajaykumar Singh to verify and act. Grand Ashok management called on him today and sought security cover, he said.
The hotel is situated behind the Chief Minister's official residence and next to his Office 'Krishna.'
