UDF-BJP poll tie up will end in failure: Vijayan Friday, December 30 2005 15:27 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kannur:
The proposed move by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central leadership to forge a tie-up with the Congress-led United Democratic Front(UDF) in Kerala to fight the Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist (M) led Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the coming assembly polls would prove disastrous and end in failure for the ruling combine, CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said today (Dec 30, 2005).
"None should harbour any dream to defeat CPI(M) by forging an unholy alliance with the BJP, with that party's central leadership giving the green signal for such a tie-up in the
coming assembly poll, as it would lead to a genuine concern among minority communities towards the UDF," Vijayan told a press conference here.
He alleged that the BJP's proposed move was not surprising as there was a clear indication to the fact that the BJP had indulged in widespread 'trading' of its votes to UDF during the last civic polls and Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha bypolls.
While Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala had 'whole heartedly' hailed the BJP's move to support UDF, the BJP on the other hand, needed UDF help to open an account in the state assembly, he alleged. Such a
situation would prove disastrous for Kerala politics.
Asked whether the CPI(M) had also benefitted with the BJP votes during the Thiruvananthapuram bypolls, Vijayan denied it saying cpi-m was gaining strength as more parties and people were switching over to LDF in the last four-and-a-half year
tenure of UDF Government.
