Former PM Vajpayee's remarks create ripples in BJP Friday, December 30 2005 12:27 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Atal Bihari Vajpayee's remark hailing L K Advani and Pramod Mahajan as 'Ram and Lakshman' of the party has ruffled the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with party leaders at the national convention here seeking to interpret the 'googly' delivered by the former Prime Minister.
"Advani had chosen Venkaiah Naidu as his Lakshman, but now Vajpayee has said some other thing," party leader Sushma Swaraj said.
"Everyone is in search of a Lakshman in the party. I have chosen my own Lakshman," she said in a lighter vein pointing to party MP S S Ahluwalia, who was standing beside her.
Former party chief Venkaiah Naidu said that party is Ram and it is the duty of everyone to work in the service of Ram. He also said that he was Hanuman.
"We have lot of Lakshmans, Bharats and Shatrughans," he said, adding that the party has a huge force of 'Vanar sena.'
Later, speaking at the convention, he said that media indulges in sensationalism and speculation leading to recreation.
