Cong terms BJP a house divided as it gets new chief Saturday, December 31 2005 14:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
As Rajnath Singh was named Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President, Congress today (Dec 31,2005) termed it a house divided, noting that the disunity in the saffron outfit could be seen even in the passing of the baton to the new party chief.
Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that 'dissent, disunity and internal wranglings' in BJP could be seen even in the 'so-called transfer of power' to Singh.
"We hope that the internal fights among the second and third line of leaders do not overpower the issues of good governance," he said, also noting that not even an ardent
follower of BJP could see it as a united entity.
Taking a dig at BJP leaders' frequent references to the Ramayana of late, he said, "Whether he dons the role of Lakshman, Bharat or Vibhishan remains to be seen."
"That Advani would step down was known for some time. The likelihood of it was anticipated. We wish the new successor well," he said.
