SP demands JPC probe of phone tapping allegations
Saturday, December 31 2005 14:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: With the police registering a case of criminal conspiracy and forgery into the phone tapping allegations, the Samajwadi Party today (Dec 31, 2005) demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the matter.

"We want a JPC probe into the matter," SP General Secretary Ramgopal Yadav, brother of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, told reporters when asked if the party would seek a CBI inquiry into the allegations.

He ridiculed CBI probes, saying, "What happened in the case of Satish Sharma who has been absolved of all charges in the petrol pump allotment cases in one stroke."

Mulayam Singh Yadav had yesterday accused Sonia Gandhi of ordering tapping of telephones of senior SP leaders as part of attempts to topple his Government, which was immediately rejected by the Congress as 'baseless and unwarranted.'
