Tata Group will complete the tsunami rehabilitation projects in Tamil Nadu by June 2006, said Tata Relief Committee (TRC) members.
Addressing a press conference here today, TRC members said tsunami rehabilitation projects undertaken by Tata Group had been estimated to cost Rs 35 crore and were in various stages of completion.
Tata Group had undertaken construction of 1,178 houses in Nagapattinam, Kanaykumari and Tirunelveli districts, which were the most affected areas in last year's tsunami.
"Most of these houses will be completed by next April," said R K Krishna Kumar, Chairman, TRC, who is also the Director of Tata Sons Ltd.
Immediate relief measures carried out by the group included construction of a community amenities centre costing Rs 45 lakh and an overall sanitation and cleanliness drive in
the Kovalam village in the city outskirts.
Tatas have also contributed 36 fishing boats with nets and engines, each unit costing Rs 1.5 lakh, for fishermen and the self-help groups in the affected areas, said P
