B'lore firing: Police 'confident' of cracking the case Sunday, January 1 2006 14:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
Five days after the terror attack on the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc) here, police today (Jan 01, 2006) said the probe into it was moving 'in the right direction' and they were 'very confident' of cracking the case.
"The investigation is progressing in the right direction. We are satisfied. We have made good progress", Bangalore Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh told souces.
Singh said the police was 'very confident' of detecting the case 'as soon as possible' but could not set any deadline considering the 'seriousness' of the incident.
He said several people had been questioned but none had been arrested so far. Describing the progress as 'good', he said, "We should succeed (in detecting the case)".
Asked about the possible link of terrorists involved in the attack on the Special Task Force office in Hyderabad in October to the Bangalore terrorist strike, he said a team from Bangalore was in the Andhra Pradesh capital but "no conclusion has been drawn (linking the two)".
The Delhi Police had recently arrested three Harkat-ul-Jehad militants for the Hyderabad blast.
Casting away fears of fresh terrorist attacks, Bangaloreans late last night ushered in the New Year with the usual revellery and mirth associated with it as nearly 4,000 policemen, aided by the 'quick reaction forces', including a team from the Army, and the bomb disposal squads kept a hawk-eyed vigil.
The city continued to remain on high alert following Wednesday's IISc attack that left a professor of IIT, Delhi, dead and wounded four others.
