PM arrives in H'bad to inaugurate Science Congress Tuesday, January 3 2006 10:37 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Hyderabad:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived here yesterday night (Jan 02, 2006) for a one-day visit during which he will inaugurate the 93rd Indian Science Congress.
Amid tight security in the backdrop of the city police busting a terror network, Singh arrived from New Delhi by a special aircraft at 10.20 p.m.
The Prime Minister was received at the airport by Andhra Pradesh Governor Sushilkumar Shinde, Chief Minister Y S Rajaesekhar Reddy, his cabinet colleagues and officials.
He drove straight to Raj Bhavan for a night halt.
The Prime Minister would inaugurate the Science Congress at the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University (ANGRAU) at Rajendranagar on the city outskirts today.
He would then proceed to Shamsabad, also in the suburbs, to lay the foundation stone for the Outer Ring Road project and address a public meeting.
Singh would leave for Port Blair at 1.20 p.m. to visit tsunami-affected areas.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit in the wake of last week's terror attack on the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.
A large posse of policemen was guarding the route from the airport to Raj Bhavan and also at the venues of the two programmes. Security forces, including some companies of central forces, have been deployed to provide security to top scientists attending the five-day science meet.
