Salem confesses role in Jain murder case: Police Tuesday, January 3 2006 15:03 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai :
Extradited gangster Abu Salem, who is in the custody of Mumbai police in connection with the murder of builder Pradeep Jain, has confessed his role in the case, police said today (Jan 3, 2006).
Salem, who is currently being questioned by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai police in connection with the 1995 murder of Jain, reportedly expressed his desire to ATS officials to make the confession in the case yesterday (Jan 2, 2006).
Salem was then directed to a senior officer, who was competent enough to record his statement since the case was registered under the Terrorist and Disruptive (Prevention) Act, police said.
Joint Police Commissioner (ATS) P S Raghuvanshi told sources that Salem recorded his confession yesterday in front of competent officers, which would be forwarded to the special TADA court hearing the case.
The contents of the confession were not known and would be learnt only when it reaches the designated court, he added.
This is Salem's second confession to the police since he was extradited from Portugal in November last year. He had earlier confessed his role in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
