'Phone-tapping is a serious matter, probe needed' Wednesday, January 4 2006 19:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Terming the phone-tapping of Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh as a 'serious matter', the Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist (M) today (Jan 4, 2006)demanded a proper investigation to 'uncover' the conspiracy behind it.
"As far as the tapping of phone of Singh is concerned, it is a serious matter because it has been established that through a private telephone company tapping has been done
illegally. There should be a proper investigation to uncover the conspiracy behind it", CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters emerging from a meeting with Singh.
Singh met Karat in a bid to mobilise support of non-Congress political parties on the phone-tapping issue and apprised the CPI-M leader about the taping operation by a
private detective agency.
Taking exceptions to Congress and Central Government's plea that Samajwadi Party leaders were creating a ruckus on the issue, Singh told reporters separately that now
it was an established fact that "My telephones were tapped. I have also come to know that all security agencies CBI, RAW and IB had held a meeting. In that meeting, two
persons at the level of CBI Joint Director said about me when my name was mentioned, "You just fix him once and for all",Singh told reporters.
