Cong not to invite allies for its Plenary Session Thursday, January 5 2006 08:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Congress, sharing power at the Centre, has no plans to invite its allies for the Plenary Session scheduled in Hyderabad from Jan 21 to 23.
Highly placed party sources said it was now almost certain there would be no election to the Congress Working Committee.
They said unlike several times in the past, the party would not be inviting its friendly parties or allies for the meet. This is for the first time the Congress was in a
coalition at the Centre.
Besides, they said All India Congress Committee (AICC) members from various parties of the country have twice pleaded with party chief Sonia Gandhi to nominate the entire Congress Working Committee. The members have contended their authorising her in the matter was itself a democratic exercise.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadrea will be among distinguished guests at the session, but it was not clear whether she would attend.
The Drafting Committee for the Session, headed by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, will meet today (Jan 5,2006).
