Third front not possible at present time: Amar Singh Thursday, January 5 2006 18:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
Samajwadi leader Amar Singh today (Jan 05, 2006) ruled out the possibility of a third front at the national level 'at the present juncture'.
"There is need for a secular alternative to the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the national level, but at present it is not possible," he told reporters here.
The alternative should have left parties in it and in the present circumstances; it was not possible, as they were supporting the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre, Singh said.
He said with parties like Lok Jan Shakthi and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which were an integral part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the UPA governments, it was difficult to think of an alternative.
"The alternative should be issue and value based and not number based," which was happening now, the Samajwadi Party (SP) leader said.
"Inconsistent stands by Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and DMK on several issues will not serve any purpose," he said.
