People's hope from NDA, slowly giving way to despair Sunday, January 8 2006 17:52 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna:
Burning alive of six members of a family in Raghopur, kidnapping of a businessman Prashant Jain from the heart of the capital and gunning down of five members of a minority community in East Champaran in the past 40 days of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government in power in Bihar has jolted the people.
Unchecked crimes have also given a stick to the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) to beat the Government, which came to
power on the slogan of making Bihar crime-free within three months of coming to power.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad and LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan have already painted a gloomy picture for the state under the NDA.
Nitish Kumar's promise to have crime-free Bihar has proved hollow. People have now realised that they were befooled by Kumar to win elections, Prasad had said after visiting Rampur Shyamchand village, where six members of a family, a woman and
her five children, were burnt alive on the new years day.
Paswan had alleged crime had in fact taken a dangerous trend under the present regime.
In the past, people were kidnapped for ransom, but now they are being killed+, he said
after a visit to Raghopur, that falls in his Hajipur parliamentary seat.
ADGP (Headquarters) Abhyanand told sources today, it is very difficult to contain the negatives. We are trying to add positives to neutralise the negatives.
While former state police chief and now a Janata Dal (JD)United (U) leader R Prasad likened the scenario with that of receding flood waters which leave behind spate of miseries, his successor D P Ojha, who campaigned for CPI-ML (Liberation) said, "Mere slogans will not work. There should be a concrete plan to root out crime and corruption."
