Election Commission appointed observers today (Jan 10, 2006) fanned out into several districts of poll bound West Bengal to supervise the poll machinery and revision of the electoral list, official sources said.
Nineteen EC observers had arrived in the state and had left for their respective districts, State's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Debashish Sen said.
Observer K J Rao of Bihar poll fame, who is on a week-long visit to Nadia district since yesterday, today visited Santipur and Chakdah blocks and met officials in the two areas and heard complaints from the people with regard to the voters list.
Rao will be visiting several areas under the 15 assembly segments in bordering Nadia to check reported cases of forgery and irregularities in ration cards and voter ID cards.
Rao detected a large number of bogus voters during his visit to Dhubulia block yesterday and instructed the election department officials to delete them.
A report from Darjeeling district said EC appointed observer M Nagaraju, who arrived yesterday, would be meeting representatives of all political parties in the Hills today.
Nagaraju will supervise poll revision work and various aspects relating to 1.136 polling stations, including 23 remote booths.
A report from Hooghly district said EC appointed observer for the district, N Siva Sailab, would meet the district officials and representatives of major political parties today and scan the voters list for discrepancies.
The Hooghly district Trinamool Congress and Congress have alleged names of bogus voters on the list.
The final electoral list for the state will be published on February 15.
