Mumbai:
The Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai police yesterday (Jan 09, 2006) moved a TADA court in the Pradeep Jain murder case urging for police custody of Abu Salem on the basis of new material that has come to light following scientific tests conducted on him.
In an application to designated judge P V Bavkar, police said that Salem was recently subjected to narco-analysis and other tests and he had revealed certain 'sensitive' information on the basis of which further investigations were required to be done.
In this regard, Salem's police custody was needed, the police application said.
The judge has deferred the matter till today for orders.
This is for the second time police is seeking Salem's police custody, the first being when he was arrested last month in this case.
At present, Salem is in judicial custody in Pradeep Jain murder case and police claim to have gathered additional material as a result of which further investigations need to be carried out.
Jain was murdered in March 1995 allegedly by Salem's hit men after he failed to pay the extortion amount. Later, Salem recovered the same from his family, police alleged.
