In the backdrop of volatile political situation set off by soured realtions between coalition Government partners, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka today (Jan 11,2006) asked its legislators to commence their campaign to face the mid-term poll to the state assembly expected by this May.
A meeting of BJP legislature party, which was attended by its state unit office bearers, directed its party men to get ready for the snap polls as a bleak prospect stared the
survival of the Congress-Janata Dal (JD) Secular (S) coalition Government.
Briefing the press midway through the day-long meeting, opposition BJP leader B S Yediyurappa said the meeting discussed the prevailing political situation, outcome of Zilla and Taluk Panchayat polls and the utter neglect of development programmes by the coaltion Government.
He said the party has decided to chalkout agitation programmes to highlight what it called 'failures and misrule 'of the coalition Government in order to create awareness among
people and decide the issue it would raise in the coming legislature session commencing from January 19.
Yediyurappa ruling out formation of an alternative Government with JDS support, dismissed reports that have been appearing in media have no 'iota of truth'.
He however claimed that JDS chief H D Devegowda, when he called on former prime minister A B Vajpayee recently told him that relationship between his party and Congress have soured and he was preparing for a snap poll.
The meeting between Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna has fuelled speculations that the assembly might be immediately dissolved, he claimed.
