CBI probe would unravel truth in phone-tapping: CPI Wednesday, January 11 2006 19:49 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Communist Party of India (CPI) today (Jan 11, 2006) sought to impress upon Samajwadi Party, agitated over the phone-tapping of its leaders, including Amar Singh, that a probe by CBI would be able to unravel the truth in the controversy.
CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan stated this during talks with Singh who called on the Left veteran to enlist his support on the issue which is snowballing into a major political row.
Bardhan suggested to the SP leader that CBI being the 'authorised investigating agency' should go into the issue as those who have been caught so far were 'small players' amid allegations of involvement of some 'big fish'.
The CPI leader told Singh that since the case was before the Supreme Court, it could ask the Government to file an affidavit.
The SP is opposed to an inquiry by CBI into the issue with party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav declaring that he had 'no faith' in the agency.
