Krishnagar (WB): Election Commission Observer K J Rao today (Jan 11,2006) continued with his mission of cleaning up the electoral rolls, personally striking out the names of non-existent voters in bordering Nadia district.

On the third day of his visit, Rao of Bihar election fame, visited some wards under Nabadwip block and weeded out the names of several voters either dead or non-resident.

He later met district officials at the Block Development Office (BDO) at Phulia.

Rao had yesterday detected two persons with fake ID cards at Hanskhali and had ordered the police to arrest them. The two persons were produced in a district court today and remanded to seven days police custody, official sources said.

In Purulia, Election observer Manoranjan Mishra visited three villages in Hura and Kashipur blocks and talked to the villagers.

He is slated to meet leaders of all political parties later in the day, the district magistrate Kanti Sarkar said.

Mishra spoke to several political leaders personally yesterday (Jan10,2006).

The Election Commission has despatched nineteen observers for an equal number of districts in the state where there have been allegations by political parties of widespread irregularities in the electoral rolls.
