Cold wave persists in Bihar; fog delays trains Thursday, January 12 2006 14:59 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

There was no let-up in the overall cold wave situation in Bihar with mercury hovering between 5 and 6 degree celsius in Patna and Gaya even as several trains were running behind schedule due to thick fog in the morning.
According to meteorological office sources, minimum temperature of Patna, which experienced the coldest day this season on Tuesday with mercury falling to 4 degree celsius, was at 6.4 degree celsius, while the maximum went up to 23 degree celsius today (Jan 12, 2006).
Cold wave continued to lash the pilgrim town of Gaya with temperature remaining at 5 degree celsius, while Bhagalpur continued to be comparatively warm with no significant change in temperature which was at 11.3 degree celsius, sources said.
District administration has ordered closure of Government and private primary and secondary schools till January 15 due to the biting cold in Patna.
Some long-distance trains passing through or terminating at different stations in Bihar were running slightly behind schedule due to fog, East Central Railway sources said.
Weatherman forecast mainly clear sky with fog/mist and no significant change in the temperature in next 24 hours. The cold wave condition would continue in isolated places in Bihar in next 12 hours.
There has been no official report of death owing to the biting cold from anywhere in the state even as unconfirmed reports put the death toll at seven during the past three days.
