TN: Congress to boycott Governor's address tomorrow
Thursday, January 12 2006 17:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: The Congress Legislature Party in the Tamil Nadu assembly today (Jan 12, 2006) decided to boycott the Governor's address to the state legislature tomorrow, in protest against convening the session on 'Bhogi' day, a festival of Tamils.

CLP leader S R Balasubramoniyan, in a statement, said that the AIADMK government, despite knowing that the day was a holiday, was 'adamant' on convening the session.

This was an 'insult' to the sentiments of Tamils and hence the Congress had decided to boycott the Governor's address, he said.

The AIADMK government had also decided to go ahead with the assembly session on Jan 17, the birth anniversary of AIADMK founder, the late M G Ramachandran, showing little respect for the memory of the leader, he added.
