CPM asks Govt to explain Quattrocchi bank accounts Thursday, January 12 2006 17:36 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Joining the opposition attack, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) ally Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) today asked the government to explain how and why legal opinion on Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi's frozen bank accounts was conveyed to the British authorities.
Observing that Additional Solicitor General B Dutta had reportedly conveyed to the British Crown prosecution authorities that there was no evidence to link the two accounts in London with the Bofors case, the party Polit Bureau demanded, "the government has to explain why and how this has happened".
Maintaining that these accounts were frozen at the request of CBI, it said the investigating agency had also stated that efforts to bring Quattrocchi to court would continue and that the Interpol red alert notice had not been revoked.
"In such a situation, it is questionable why such legal opinion about the bank accounts has been conveyed to the British authorities", the party said.
