SP to continue support to UPA government: Mulayam
Thursday, January 12 2006 18:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Lucknow: In the wake of reports that his party was considering withdrawal of support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, Samajwadi Party (SP) president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today (Jan 12, 2006) stepped in to say there was no such proposal.

"We have given support to the UPA to fight the communal forces and it will continue", he said in reply to a question by reporters after a meeting of the SP's district presidents at the party headquarters here.

The SP has 38 members in Lok Sabha but it makes no material difference to the continuation of the UPA government.

Earlier in Delhi, party General Secretary Amar Singh and Vice President Janeshwar Mishra had ruled out withdrawal of support to the UPA government.

Mulayam Singh, however, said his party would continue to review the UPA government's fight against communal forces.

When asked about the Supreme Court notices to him and his family members in connection with a disproportionate income case, Yadav said that the matter was before the court.

"Every thing in this regard had already been said. We will reply to the notice", he quipped.
