Centre disfavours ordinance to stop demolition Saturday, January 14 2006 12:02 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Union Urban DevelopmentMinistry disfavours any ordinance to legalize unauthorized constructions in the national capital, sources in the ministry said here yesterday (Jan 13,2006) night.
They said there was no move to bring an ordinance to legalise the illegal constructions so that they could be saved from the bulldozers of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
The MCD had begun a demolition drive against unauthorised constructions on December 19 following the Delhi High Court's order to the civic body to raze 18,000 illegal structures.
Apparently taking a cue from Maharashtra Government's ordinance to regularize illegal constructions in Ulhasnagar, near Mumbai, a section of the political establishment in Delhi suggested a similar move in the national capital.
Meanwhile, the Urban Development Ministry is also planning to formulate a policy under which artists would be given permanent allocation to Government houses.
Earlier, Government accommodation was allotted for a period of three years, after which the artists had to seek further approval from the Culture Ministry.
