Artillery gun barrel explodes, three jawans killed

Lucknow: Three army troops were killed when an artillery gun barrel exploded during a joint military exercise between India and Singapore in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh, police said here today (Jan 15, 2006).

The accident occurred yesterday when the jawans were displaying the efficiency of the artillery gun at 41st Armoured Division premises at Babina, they said.

The barrel of the gun suddenly exploded killing the soldiers instantly.

The blast ripped apart the bodies of jawans, police said adding the dead were Rampati Yadav, Sanjay Yadav and Ashok Singh Sahi.

No Singaporean soldier was hurt, police said adding the exercises were called off yesterday but resumed today.
