Plans to kill former J&K CM Mufti Sayeed unearthed

Srinagar: With the arrest of two militants, including a Municipal Councillor affiliated with the People's Democratic Party, Jammu and Kashmir police today (Jan 15,2006) claimed to have unearthed a plot of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba to assassinate former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

The plans to kill Sayeed last year before he handed over the reins of the Government to coalition partner Congress came to light with the arrest of PDP councillor from Zakoora area of Srinagar Abdul Waheed Dar and his associate Wahid Ahmad Dar of Hazratbal locality, Senior Superintendent of police, Srinagar, Muneer Khan told reporters here.
