TN: Influx of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees continue
Sunday, January 15 2006 15:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Rameswaram (TN): The influx of refugees continued for the fourth day with ten Sri Lankan Tamils arriving here this morning (Jan 15, 2006), raising their total number to 48.

Revenue officials said they had made arrangements to accommodate them at the Mandapam Transit Camp near here.

The Sri Lankan Tamils who arrived here today included five men, three woman, and two children. They belong to Selvanayakapuram in Talaimannar District.

They said they had paid Rs.6000 per head to a boat operator for ferrying them to India from Sri Lanka.

A batch of 24 Sri Lankan Tamils arrived here on Thursday, the first after hostilities broke out between the Sri Lankan Army and suspected Tamil Tiger rebels on January 7 off Trincomale.
