Sri Lanka: Tigers accuse army of killing cadres Sunday, January 15 2006 15:22 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Colombo:
Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka today (Jan 15,2006) accused the army of killing two of their cadres in the north-east of the island even as they condemned a bomb attack against Scandinavian truce monitors as an attempt to wreck the troubled ceasefire with Government forces.
The rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) claimed that about 50 Sri Lankan soldiers entered Thiagavanam, an area under LTTE control in Trincomalee and killed two cadres on Friday.
"The soldiers entered an LTTE camp and conducted an attack on the Forward Defence Line (FDL). LTTE fought back and the Sri Lankan soldiers withdrew," the LTTE alleged in a statement.
"The above attack carried out by the Sri Lanka army inside the LTTE-controlled area is a blatant violation of the ceasefire. The LTTE Peace Secretariat has lodged a complaint
to the head of (the Norwegian-led) SLMM (Sri Lanka MonitoringMission). In the letter, LTTE requested SLMM to take necessary actions to prevent further attacks of this nature," its said.
In a separate statement, the Tamil Tigers condemned yesterday's (Jan 14, 2006) bombing of an SLMM office in the eastern town of Batticaloa.
"We are extremely disturbed and concerned about the attack on the SLMM office on Lake Road in Battticaloa," the LTTE said.
"We are very relieved that no one was hurt in this attack," it said.
The Tigers said the SLMM office was located within a high security zone controlled by the military.
"Our leadership views this attack as an attempt to wreck the ceasefire agreement," the Tigers said.
